Denim Trends' Prevalence: Baggy Jeans Have Been Overtaken by Another Denim Style as Most Preferred Currently

Madé Lapuerta, the founder of the popular Instagram account "Data, But Make It Fashion," and Erin Fitzpatrick, the Associate Director of Fashion News at WWW, have teamed up to analyse the current denim trends for autumn.

According to Lapuerta's report, both slim and baggy jeans are trending this month. Baggy jeans are 22% more popular compared to last month, while slim jeans are 43% more popular. This shift in preference could be attributed to the nostalgia that has become a powerful influence on fashion trends, as stated by Lapuerta.

Baggy jeans, which were at the height of their popularity in the '80s, '90s, and 2000s, have now become popular among young consumers. On the other hand, skinny jeans, despite people loving to hate them, remain consistently popular due to their association with '90s and 2000s style.

Lapuerta's analysis includes pulling online posts that mention "denim" and denim styles, and analysing their monthly volume and average sentiment. She also incorporates Google search traffic data into her research.

Erin Fitzpatrick, who frequently contributes to WWW's social accounts and has a sizable following on her personal TikTok, specializes in celebrity and fashion news. She leads the site's entire red carpet coverage strategy and also enjoys writing travel features and runway reports.

In her analysis of denim trends in autumn, Lapuerta focused on the mini Ugg boot. She believes that these shoes complement the season's casual and cozy style while pairing well with various denim cuts. Retailers like Old Navy are also introducing more slouchy styles to deliver what consumers want.

The hype for denim is alive and well, regardless of which specific silhouette you're excited about, according to Lapuerta. The majority (74% of consumers) have two to three denim styles in their rotation, according to Old Navy.

Nostalgia has become a powerful influence on fashion trends, including denim trends. As we move into autumn, it seems that the love for denim, whether it's baggy, slim, or the ever-popular skinny jeans, is here to stay.
