Broncos Face Injury Concerns Ahead of Season Opener
The Denver Broncos are gearing up for their season opener against Tennessee, but a few injuries could impact their lineup.
Outside linebacker Dondrea Tillman and defensive tackle Malcolm Roach have both been added to the injury report. Tillman is dealing with a hamstring injury, while Roach suffered a Grade 2 calf strain during Thursday's practice. Dr. Kenton Fibel, a primary care sports medicine specialist, stated that a Grade 2 calf strain for an NFL player usually results in several weeks of absence. Roach's injury may prevent him from playing against Tennessee on Sunday.
If Roach is unable to suit up, Jordan Jackson and Eyioma Uwazurike will receive more rotational reps.
Inside linebacker Dre Greenlaw has missed two straight practice days due to a quad injury. Behind Greenlaw and Alex Singleton, Denver has Justin Strnad, Karene Reid, Levelle Bailey, Jordan Turner, and Garrett Wallow as options.
Despite the injuries, offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi remains optimistic about the Broncos' running backs. He believes they can all play in various scenarios, making it easier to personnel plays.
There's some positive news on the injury front, as Tillman received encouraging news after examination and appears to have avoided serious injury.
In other news, the Broncos' top two draft picks from this spring have recently changed their numbers. First-round pick Jahdae Barron has switched his number to No. 23, a tribute to his childhood friend, Tardrick "Trollie" Fowler Jr., who passed away in 2020. Second-round running back RJ Harvey has switched his number to No. 12. So far, these are the only number changes for the Denver Broncos.
Lombardi also had positive things to say about RJ Harvey, stating that he has come along well in the pass-protection department and expects him to improve further in the next year. If Harvey is on third down, the team has no concerns about his pass protection.
Defensive coordinator Vance Joseph stated that the team is always discussing contingency plans for any player. The search results do not contain information about the replacement player for the injured defensive tackle Malcolm Roach for the season opener against Tennessee.
As the Broncos prepare for their first game, they will be hoping for a speedy recovery for their injured players and a strong start to the season.
