Derailed Tram in Dresden: Emergency Crews Re-Rail the Tram

In an unexpected turn of events on August 4, 2025, a collision occurred between two trams of line 4 in the heart of Dresden, Germany. The incident took place at Dreyssigplatz, Mickten, causing a partial closure of the area.

The collision occurred at approximately 1:58 PM, and the Albertstadt fire and rescue station quickly responded, deploying forces to secure the scene and the vehicles. Thankfully, no one was injured during the incident.

An expert advisor from the Dresden Transport Authority played a crucial role in devising a strategy to put the derailed tram back on track. A shifting bridge with a hydraulic jack was positioned to lift the tram, while shifting cylinders were used to guide it into the correct track position. Tension locks were employed between the tram parts to prevent twisting or bending of the articulated sections.

The specialists for tram assistance managed to put the tram back on track millimeter-accurately within two hours - on the first attempt. After being put back on track, the tram continued its journey.

During the operation, Dreyssigplatz was partially closed to ensure the safety of the public and the emergency services. The incident lasted until 4:30 PM, causing minor disruptions to the tram services in the area.

Michael Klahre, the press officer of the Dresden Fire Department, served as the spokesperson, providing official information and statements to the media regarding the incident.
