Developed at Last: A Non-Emulator Game Boy Advance Equivalent Emerges as the Preferred Choice
Game Bub, a reimagining of the beloved Nintendo Game Boy Advance, is set to hit the shelves in 2026. This compact gaming device, designed and manufactured by Sipeed, promises to deliver a premium gaming experience for fans of classic titles.
Priced at $249 on Crowd Supply, Game Bub positions itself alongside premium devices like the Analogue Pocket. The handheld retains the horizontal form factor for comfortable long gaming sessions, making it ideal for marathon gaming sessions.
The heart of Game Bub is the ESP32-S3 microcontroller, which manages system functions and connectivity. For perfect timing and zero input lag, Game Bub employs FPGA technology. This technology also ensures hardware-level accuracy, allowing the device to recreate Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance cartridges with precision.
Game Bub's 4-inch IPS display runs at 720 by 480 pixels, providing crisp, bright visuals. Colours on the display pop, and text is sharp with clean scaling. The display offers improved visuals compared to the original Game Boy Advance's reflective screen, ensuring a more enjoyable gaming experience.
Audio-wise, Game Bub boasts dual 1-watt stereo speakers and a headphone jack. Connectivity options include USB-C charging, microSD slot for firmware updates, display output for big-screen play, Bluetooth Low Energy, and 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi.
The transparent design of Game Bub allows viewers to see the internal engineering of the device. It is available in Transparent Purple and Transparent White, adding a modern twist to the retro aesthetics.
