Development company affiliated with the local council initiates construction of eco-friendly residential properties
In the heart of Manchester, the development company This City has begun constructing over 120 new low carbon properties, with the project being led by the company Wates. The development, located in Ancoats, will create affordable housing options in the city centre and encourage walking, cycling, and access to public transport.
The development includes 118 apartments across two buildings, with 27 one-bed and 91 two-bed homes. Additionally, there will be 10 townhouses, consisting of eight three-bed and two four-bed homes. Each townhouse will include off-street parking with electric vehicle charge points, and the development will be complemented by quality green space and sustainable transport options.
Cllr Gavin White, Manchester City Council's executive member for housing and development, marked the first start-on-site for the development company This City. He expressed his pride in celebrating these homes and what they will mean to the Manchester people who live in them.
Wates is not only delivering sustainable new homes but also investing in the local community. The organization has pledged £500,000 into local Voluntary Community and Social Enterprises, and provides 140 weeks' worth of work experience for students.
The development in Ancoats will be a prime example of This City's vision of using Council-owned land to build affordable homes in desirable locations. The road to building this type of housing is challenging, particularly in the context of the current economic conditions. However, the commitment to sustainable and affordable housing remains strong.
This development in Rodney Street is a significant step towards providing low carbon homes and affordable housing options in Manchester. The development is expected to be completed in the near future, providing a much-needed boost to the city's housing market.
