In a significant move to protect consumers and uphold intellectual property rights, the police in Almaty have seized over 1,000 counterfeit LEGO building block sets. The seizure, reported by our website and citing Polisia.kz, took place as a result of a complaint from the LEGO company about the illegal use of its trademarks.

Officers from the Cybercrime Prevention Department of Almaty Police and the Department of Justice disrupted the circulation of these counterfeit toys, which were discovered on several markets and warehouses. The seized items mimicked original LEGO construction sets, but upon inspection, they were found to be of poor quality, lacking labeling, and having no information about the manufacturer.

According to Deputy Chief of the Cybercrime Prevention Department of Almaty Police, Yerkebulan Koishybayev, counterfeit goods can be toxic, unsafe, and dangerous, especially for children's products. He emphasised that counterfeit goods directly harm consumers. The seized counterfeit items are worth more than 2 million tenge.

The counterfeit toys were reported to be worth more than 2 million tenge, and a total of over 1,000 counterfeit items were seized. The case materials from the seizure have been sent to court.

This seizure serves as a reminder for consumers to be vigilant when purchasing toys and to always check for authenticity. It also underscores the importance of reporting any suspected misuse of trademarks to the relevant authorities.
