In a bid to modernise its city administration, the city of Iserlohn has introduced a digital option for residents to apply for a resident parking permit, effective from January 1st. This move is aimed at simplifying processes and keeping the city operational.

The responsible authority for issuing digital registrations for residential parking spaces in the city is the local residents' registration office (Bürgeramt) or the municipal parking authority. Residents can now apply for the permit electronically via the city's service portal.

After verification of residence and vehicle registration details, applicants will receive a notice with an invoice. Those who receive a notice for lacking a parking permit can use a QR code for online appeal or pay the fine using online banking. The resident parking permit will be activated upon receipt of payment.

Monitoring staff from the traffic department will record parked vehicles during their inspections using a reading device. This device accesses an entry in the database to check if a parking permit exists for the vehicle. There is no longer a need to place an "ID card" behind the windshield of the vehicle.

The department head, Christian Eichhorn, is pleased about this further step towards digitization of the city administration. He emphasizes that the administration prefers the digital solution as it is more efficient and streamlined. Every step towards process simplification is being taken to ensure the smooth running of the city.

However, the traditional method of applying for a parking permit is still available for those who prefer it. The city administration is facing a severe shortage of skilled workers, and the appeal for a warning can also be made conventionally.

The monitoring systems of the parked vehicles can now access an entry in the database, making the process more efficient and reducing the need for manual checks. This digital option is part of the city's ongoing efforts to digitise its services and make them more accessible to its residents.
