Digital Identity Verification Services Gain Credibility through BSI's New Certification Program

The Data (Use and Access) Act 2025, which received Royal Assent in June, is set to further bolster the UK's Digital Identity and Attributes Trust Framework (DIATF) and its impact on various sectors. This act establishes a formal legal framework for Digital Verification Services (DVS), aiming to increase confidence in these services.

Carlos Pérez Ruiz, Global Head of Digital Trust Product Certification at BSI, has expressed pride in their role in shaping the UK's digital future through their certification service to the UK DIATF. BSI has launched a new service to help organizations comply with the latest version (Gamma 0.4) of the UK Government's Digital Identity and Attributes Trust Framework (DIATF).

The UK DIATF is crucial for various sectors as it helps people securely prove their identity, personal information, or eligibility online. Digital verification services such as digital identification checks for employment screening and digital Right-to-Rent checks are supported by BSI's service. The aim of the UK DIATF is to make these digital verification services easier and safer to use, as they become more critical for businesses and government services.

Organizations certified by BSI can demonstrate that their digital identity and attribute services meet high standards for security, privacy, and reliability. BSI's service aims to build confidence in digital verification services, ensuring they are trusted, secure, and privacy-focused.

The organization that developed and carried out a new certification scheme for compatibility with the current version of the UK Government Digital Identity and Attributes Trust Framework in cooperation with the UK government is iProov. The UK Government's Digital Identity and Attributes Trust Framework (DIATF) is the official framework for the deployment of trusted digital verification services (DVS) in the UK market.

Carlos Pérez Ruiz has stated that trust will be critical to the successful adoption of digital verification services. He has also expressed that the formalization of the UK DIATF marks a turning point for the sector and sets a new benchmark for digital trust. The Data (Use and Access) Act 2025 sets new standards for how data is used, shared, and protected across sectors.

Individuals and organizations in sectors such as financial services, healthcare, public sector, legal, technology, education can confidently use and share digital identities and attributes across different services due to BSI's certification. Carlos Pérez Ruiz has stated that BSI stands ready to help organizations demonstrate their commitment to these trusted, secure, and privacy-focused digital identity solutions.

The UK DIATF covers various areas such as financial boarding services, right to work services, and age assurance among others. As the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025 helps move the UK Digital Identity and Attributes Trust Framework (DIATF) beyond its previous pilot phase into full implementation, BSI's new certification scheme service is now positioned to support organizations in demonstrating compliance with the latest version of UK DIATF requirements.
