Diplomats from the European Union set off for the United States with a focus on collaborating on economic penalties against Russia.

The European Union, under the leadership of President Antonio Costa, is taking a firm stance against Russia's ongoing war in Ukraine. Costa has stated that Europe is working closely with the United States and other partners to strengthen pressure through sanctions.

In a show of solidarity, the EU is supporting Ukraine in peace talks aimed at achieving peace. This support extends beyond diplomatic efforts, as the EU is also expressing support for Ukraine's struggle in the ongoing war.

Costa has emphasised the significance of Ukraine's membership in the European Union as the best guarantee of security for Ukraine. He has highlighted that Europe is working together with Ukraine on a common future, and has expressed support for Ukraine's recovery and its path to joining the EU.

The European Council, in collaboration with American partners, is initiating a new sanctions package against Russia. This package aims to involve NATO member states collectively, with conditions that all NATO countries stop buying Russian oil and impose high tariffs on Chinese imports. The package is intended to enter into force once these conditions are met, but no specific date has been announced yet.

In addition to the new sanctions, the EU is considering the introduction of secondary sanctions to prevent third countries from helping Russia circumvent already imposed restrictions. Costa mentioned that more economic measures are being considered to force Russia to stop the war in Ukraine.

Kaja Kallas, the EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs, has discussed potential inclusions in the 19th sanctions package against Russia. The EU's support for Ukraine's future as a full member of the European Union is clear, as Costa highlighted that Ukraine's membership in the EU is also the most effective path to prosperity and a better future for Ukrainians.

In these challenging times, Europe and the US are standing united with Ukraine, working towards a common goal of peace and a brighter future.
