Directive Proposal Request for Safeguarding Youth in Case of Accidents by the Commission

In the Herford district, a new initiative is encouraging kindergarten children and their parents to walk to kindergarten together, even during the dark season. This initiative, known as the "Aktion der Leuchtvesten," has been organised by the Verkehrswacht Herford since 2017 as part of the European Mobility Week.

This year, around 1,500 signal warning vests will be distributed to all 3-year-olds in the over 130 kindergartens across the district. Sabine Höner zu Siederdissen from the Mobility Management of the Herford district expressed delight about every kindergarten that collects its vests.

The vests, which have the district's climate protection logo, are intended to improve traffic safety for kindergarten children. They make the children highly visible, promoting the independence and safety of children in road traffic. Every distance covered on foot or by bike thanks to the vests also contributes to the mobility transition and supports climate protection.

The Herford district has initiated a permanent action under the motto "Walking to Kindergarten." The distribution of the vests is aimed at all kindergarten children in the district. The district delivers the vests to the town halls of the cities and municipalities for collection by the institutions.

Kindergartens can contact the Mobility Management of the district via email (mobilitaetsmanagement@our website) or telephone (05221/13-2290) for advice on Mobility Week actions. Some kindergartens have already taken up the offer for Mobility Week actions, but more institutions are always welcome.

Sabine Höner zu Siederdissen stated that there are no limits to creativity when it comes to Mobility Week actions. The response to the glow warning vest action has been positive so far.

The Herford district is not only promoting a healthier lifestyle but also contributing to the environment by encouraging active travel to kindergarten. With the glow warning vests, the district is taking a significant step towards ensuring the safety of its youngest citizens while promoting climate protection.
