Disarmament in Hannover-Bothfeld scheduled for September 9, 2025 in FW Hannover
On Tuesday, September 9, 2025, the Hannover-Buchholz exit from the A2 motorway heading into the city will be temporarily restricted due to a combat engineering operation. The site of the former Freiherr-von-Fritsch barracks in Hannover has several potential ordnance suspect points, believed to be World War II grenades, which will be detonated.
The exit 45 (Hannover-Buchholz) of the A2 motorway in the direction of Berlin will be temporarily closed for the detonation. Affected residents should take with them all essential items such as medication, baby or special food, and appropriate clothing.
For those residents who are mobility-impaired, an ambulance can be requested by calling 19222. Regular traffic reports on the radio will also provide updates on the closures. Affected residents should inform relatives and friends about their absence and their neighbors about the evacuation measures.
Around 20 people will need to leave the affected area at 6:00 PM on Tuesday, September 9, 2025. A care center will remain available at the Municipal Nursery (Zur Stadtgaertnerei 10, 30657 Hannover) for those affected by the evacuation who have no other accommodation.
The person responsible for the Hannover Fire Department and potentially the contact for further information about the World War II grenade detonation date in September 2025 is the deputy head of the Hanover Fire Department, Gregor Fleischmann. For further inquiries, the Feuerwehr Hannover can be contacted at Christine Reime, telephone: 0511 912-1293, email: [email protected].
It is important to note that there is currently no danger to the population. Information on the closures can be found on the website of the Lower Saxony Traffic Management Centre (https://www.vmz-niedersachsen.de/). The detonation is scheduled for Tuesday, September 9, 2025.
We encourage all residents to follow the instructions provided by the authorities and stay safe during this operation.
