Discussion overheard between Xi and Putin: Duration science may expand human lifespan
In a rare and intriguing conversation, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese leader Xi Jinping discussed the potential for science to extend the human lifespan. The dialogue took place in Beijing during a walk on a red carpet, with a brief hot mic moment capturing the world's attention.
Xi Jinping, presiding over a parade marking the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, made a comment about the possibility of significantly increasing human lifespan within the century. His Chinese counterpart, who actively brought the issue to the forefront in the past, agreed and expressed optimism about the potential development of biotechnology.
The conversation revolved around the possibilities of organ transplantation and the continued advancement of modern health and medical technologies. Putin mentioned that former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi had also actively promoted the topic of lifespan extension in the past.
During the conversation, Xi Jinping shared his thoughts that living past 70 was once considered rare, but now it's considered a child's age. Putin responded, albeit inaudibly, which was later clarified by a translator. The translator stated that Putin believed that in a few decades, as biotechnology continues to develop, human organs will continue to be transplanted, and people may achieve immortality.
The parade was broadcasted by the parade media center to international news agencies, including The Associated Press. The live feed switched to an overhead view of the viewing platform on Tiananmen Gate, but the audio from the leaders continued. Xi Jinping appeared to smile slightly during the interpreter's translation.
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un was present among a group of high-level guests. Later in the day, Putin mentioned that Xi brought up the topic of life expectancy during their walk to the parade.
Putin added that life expectancy is significantly increasing globally, giving reason to hope for an active life to continue differently than now. The conversation between the two leaders serves as a testament to their shared vision for the future and the potential advancements that science and technology may bring.
