Discussions between Putin and Xi on the pursuit of immortality revealed
During a four-day visit to China, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping held a conversation about the possibility of significantly extending human lifespan. The discussion, which was inadvertently captured by Chinese state television, revolved around the potential for people to feel younger due to biotechnological advancements and even achieve immortality.
Xi Jinping, who has been in power since 2013, suggested that thanks to these advancements, human organs could be continually replaced. He expressed confidence that extending human lifespan to 150 years could be achievable in the near future.
Vladimir Putin, who is also 72, responded optimistically to Xi's statement. However, he hinted that extending lifespan might not be accessible to the general public. In his press conference, Putin confirmed the conversation about extending human lifespans but did not specify how this might be a reality for all.
The discussion took place before a military parade in Beijing. This conversation about human immortality through biotechnology follows both leaders' amendments to their countries' constitutions to allow for longer rule.
Leading researchers and organizations worldwide are working on extending human lifespan and organ replacement technologies. For instance, Chinese medical teams at the Guangzhou University Hospital are conducting xenotransplantation with genetically modified pig organs. In 2024, they transplanted a pig lung into a brain-dead patient.
The Spanish Transplant Organization (ONT) and research groups at institutions like the Max Delbrück Center in Berlin-Buch are also focusing on genetic repair of immune cells to treat rare hereditary diseases. Experts like ONT director Beatriz Domínguez-Gil are commenting on these advances.
As these discussions and advancements continue, the potential for human immortality through biotechnology remains a topic of interest and debate among world leaders and researchers alike.
