Untroubled Journeys with Northern Holidays: Smooth, Traffic-Free Travel Experience - Disorderly Traffic Persists for Holiday Travelers in the Northern Regions

Schleswig-Holstein and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern are currently experiencing minimal significant traffic congestion on major roads, a relief for travellers as the summer holiday season comes to an end.

However, motorists should brace for delays over the weekend, particularly in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The ADAC predicts heavy return traffic until Sunday evening, with delays expected especially on roads leading to the island of Usedom. Many late holidaymakers and weekend travellers are still on the road, particularly affecting the A1, A7, and A23.

The Elbtunnel in both directions is also expected to cause delays for motorists. Construction sites on the A7, A1, and A23 are causing delays, slowing down traffic flow.

In Hamburg, maintenance work on the Norderelb Bridge is affecting traffic speed, with a speed limit of 60 km/h in place. This restriction is causing some congestion in the city, but traffic is still moving, albeit slowly.

Isolated congestion was observed on Saturday, with traffic backed up for approximately ten kilometers on the A7 heading north, from the Rendsburg junction. However, the police in Wolgast did not register any increased calls about traffic disruptions on Sunday afternoon, and current traffic in these regions is similar to usual levels, with no unusual congestion.

Traffic conditions in the evening are expected to remain manageable, with no significant congestion predicted. The good news is that, despite the end of the summer holidays, traffic volume in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is similar to the last weekends, and the traffic chaos did not materialize as feared.

It's worth noting that Mecklenburg-Vorpommern has only two crossings to the mainland, the Peenebridge in Wolgast and the Zecheriner Bridge in Anklam. These crossings are operating as usual, with no unusual congestion reported.

Motorists are advised to plan more time for their journeys over the weekend, particularly if they are travelling to or from the island of Usedom. By allowing extra time, they can navigate the expected delays more easily and ensure a smoother journey.
