Display of atrocities linked to "euthanasia" abuses
Exhibition Commemorates Victims of NS Forced Sterilization in Marburg
The traveling exhibition "Persecution of Disabled People under National Socialism" will be on display in Marburg, Germany, from August 22 to October 30. The exhibition, which is a loan from the Memorial and Information Site Tiergartenstraße 4 in Berlin, is supplemented locally by the working group "Image of Disabled People Yesterday and Today" within the Marburg Network for Democracy and Against Right-Wing Extremism.
The exhibition is located at Biegenstraße 18 in Marburg's city center and is open for viewing from Friday, August 22, at 7 pm. The exhibition is free to attend, and the vernissage is on Friday, August 22, at 7 PM, with an opening ceremony addressed by Mayor Dr. Thomas Spies and musically accompanied by singer Latoya Reitzner.
The exhibition serves as a memorial and emphasizes the dangers of hatred, incitement, inhumanity, and the devaluation of people. It focuses on victims, perpetrators, and the processes of patient murders during National Socialism. The installation, titled "Stones against Forgetting," commemorates at least 333 Marburg "euthanasia" victims. Each brick in the installation has the name, date of birth, and day of murder of a victim inscribed on it.
The exhibition is designed with barrier-free access, including easy-to-understand texts and multimedia stations for visually impaired people. The installation was created with the support of the Lebenshilfe Marburg-Biedenkopf e.V. association.
In addition to the exhibition, a framework program has been organised, including lectures, discussion rounds, film screenings, and a "peer tour" for young people. The exhibition is open from Thursday to Sunday from 4 pm to 8 pm and by appointment.
Mayor Dr. Thomas Spies has expressed his thanks to the volunteers whose dedicated efforts and in-depth research made the exhibition possible. The Marburg mayor emphasised that the exhibition is a reminder that people were systematically persecuted and murdered during the NS era, specifically those with mental, intellectual, and physical disabilities.
