Dispute over birthday presents leads to fatal stabbings by husband in Delhi

A family birthday celebration in Rohini, Delhi, turned into a horrific scene of violence on August 30, when the bodies of Kusum Sinha, aged 63, and her daughter Priya Sehgal, aged 34, were found in a pool of blood in a third-floor residence in Rohini's Sector 17. The accused, Yogesh Sehgal, allegedly killed his wife and mother-in-law with a pair of scissors, according to police reports.

The harrowing discovery was made by Megh Sinha, Kusum's son, who found the house locked with blood stains visible near the door. Upon entering, he found the house in disarray with belongings scattered across the floor. Deep injuries on Kusum's throat and abdomen were immediately apparent, and Megh called the police without delay.

The police received a PCR call around 3:50pm on August 30 reporting the murders. Upon their arrival, the officers discovered the women's lifeless bodies and recovered Yogesh's blood-stained clothes and the scissors allegedly used in the murders.

Yogesh Sehgal, who had been married to Priya for 17 years, allegedly attacked Kusum when she intervened in a dispute. He also reportedly stabbed Priya in the neck with scissors late Saturday night. The motive for the killings was rooted in "domestic disputes and frequent quarrels," according to the police.

Relatives described the killings as incomprehensible and inhumane. The dispute that led to the killings was over exchanged gifts between the two families. Yogesh Sehgal was arrested on Sunday in Rohini. He allegedly confessed to the killings and attempted to flee with his sons.

In a chilling twist, Yogesh allegedly attempted to clean up the crime scene, lock the door, and wait for his sons to return from school before the police arrived.

Yogesh Sehgal was previously arrested in July 2017, but the details of that incident are not known at this time. The investigation into the tragic events of August 30 is ongoing, and further updates will be provided as they become available.
