"DPIIT collaborates with Zepto in supporting nascent manufacturing enterprises; Vohra expresses, 'We are confident that contributing to the growth...' "

The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Zepto, a 10-minute delivery startup, to support and scale startups in the manufacturing sector. This collaboration, according to Joint Secretary of DPIIT, Sanjiv, aims to unlock scale, speed, and sustainability for entrepreneurs.

Sanjiv emphasizes that support from unicorns like Zepto significantly uplifts startups. Kaivalya Vohra, Co-founder of Zepto, shares this sentiment, stating that giving back to the ecosystem is a privilege for them. Vohra's statement highlights Zepto's commitment to building a 'Viksit Bharat' (developed India) through their partnership with DPIIT.

The focus of this partnership is on supporting women-led and Tier II/III startups. The program will help startups progress from prototype to market-ready solutions using Zepto's delivery and digital infrastructure. Additionally, the collaboration will offer Startup India assistance to the participating startups.

The partnership will provide mentorship, capacity building, and expert-led workshops to the startups. It will also integrate upwards of 100 Indian startups into Zepto's supply chain, offering them a platform to showcase products, gain market access, and expand their presence.

The collaboration is focused on discovering and mentoring startups in hardware, IoT, packaging, and sustainable manufacturing. Zepto's innovation challenge, Zepto Nova, is designed to support India-first innovation and empower startups in manufacturing.

Notably, the former startup founder supported by the Zepto Nova innovation competition is Alumina Soni, focusing on the development of AI, Machine Learning, and Data Science technologies.

Sanjiv believes it is both an opportunity and a responsibility for unicorns to contribute to the startup ecosystem. Vohra notes that the partnership with DPIIT is a testament to the potential of public-private sector collaboration. This partnership, according to Vohra, is a step towards building a robust and sustainable startup ecosystem in India.
