Hofbräu Bids Farewell to Long-Standing Brewmaster, Welcomes New CEO

In a heartfelt moment at an official Oktoberfest beer tasting, Michael Möller, the brewmaster of the iconic Hofbräu brewery, tapped the barrel one last time as he prepares to retire at the end of the year. Möller has been at the helm of the state brewery for a quarter of a century, a tenure that has seen him transform Hofbräu over the past 25 years.

His successor, Jörg Lehmann, was also present at the event. Lehmann, who will take over as CEO of Hofbräu in 2026, sees his role as a calling and an honour. Before joining Hofbräu, Lehmann was the spokesperson for the Kulmbacher Brewery and holds a doctorate in brewing engineering.

Finance Minister Albert Füracker, a member of the CSU, was also in attendance to acknowledge and appreciate Möller's long-standing service as head of the brewery. He warned Lehmann that the bar is set high at Hofbräu, but Lehmann acknowledged the big footsteps he has to follow in taking over from Möller.

Hofbräu's Wiesn beer, the strongest of the six Oktoberfest beers, is a bit darker and very golden in colour, with an alcohol content of 6.3%. As Lehmann prepares to take the reins, he is aware of the responsibility that comes with leading such a storied brewery.

Despite the change in leadership, one thing remains constant - Hofbräu's commitment to brewing high-quality beer. With Lehmann's extensive background in brewing and his passion for the craft, it is clear that Hofbräu is in good hands.

Möller's service as head of Hofbräu was celebrated at the event, with many raising a glass to toast his contributions to the brewery. As he steps down, Möller can take pride in knowing that he has left a lasting legacy at Hofbräu.

In the meantime, Lehmann will begin his role at Hofbräu before his official start date in 2026. Until then, Möller will continue to lead the brewery, ensuring a smooth transition for his successor.
