In the world of cricket, a tie is a rare occurrence, but it has happened in several significant first-class matches over the years. Here's a roundup of some of the most notable ties from recent times.

Last year, the County Championship Division Two fixture between Gloucestershire and Glamorgan ended in a tie at the College Ground, Cheltenham. The 2024 edition of the same fixture also resulted in a tie in the fourth innings. The 2018 Somerset vs Lancashire match at The Cooper Associates County Ground, Taunton, also ended without a winner.

India, too, has witnessed a few tied first-class matches. The most recent one was the 1986 Test between India and Australia in Chennai. The only other tied first-class match on Indian soil was the 1945-46 Ranji Trophy semi-final between Southern Punjab and Baroda.

In a four-day fixture at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, Vidarbha and Goa played a match as part of the KSCA's invitational Dr (Capt) K. Thimmappiah Memorial Tournament. Vidarbha, the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy Elite Group champions, chose to bowl first after winning the toss. Despite being bowled out for a low score, Goa managed to secure a narrow three-run first innings lead.

Vidarbha, with half-centuries from Atharva Taide (50) and Darshan Nalkande (55), held their innings together. However, Rutvik Naik and Vijesh Prabhudesai took three-wicket hauls, restricting Vidarbha to 208. Chasing the target, Vidarbha had a terrific start with a 141-run opening stand between Taide (62) and Aman Mokhade (72). Despite Mokhade falling just short of his century for 95, Vidarbha came very close to winning.

Elsewhere in the cricket world, the Bloomfield Cricket and Athletic Club vs Sri Lanka Army Sports Club match in 2017/18 at Moors Sports Club Ground, Colombo ended in a tie. The Negombo Cricket Club vs Kalutara Town Club match in 2017/18 at Kadirana Cricket Grounds, Gampaha also ended without a winner.

It's interesting to note that in German football, the specific total count of all first-class games that have ended in a draw is not available. However, notable examples of draws include the 5:5 matches between FC Schalke 04 and FC Bayern München in 1973, and Eintracht Frankfurt and VfB Stuttgart in 1974.
