In a heartwarming moment, 19-year-old actor Salimou Thiam was recently spotted greeting a photographer's child with a friendly handshake, showcasing his down-to-earth demeanor off-screen.

Thiam, who rose to fame from his humble beginnings in school theater, is now a household name for many, particularly children, who recognise him from his role as Ben, the BMX rider and rapper, in the teen spin-off of the RTL soap opera "Gute Zeiten, schlechte Zeiten."

His journey to stardom didn't stop there. Last year, Thiam landed his first major project in "Uferpark," a series airing on RTL+ and Toggo. Currently, he's filming for an episode of the RTL+ crime series "Behringer and the Dead" in Bavaria.

But Thiam's biggest break came when he landed a speaking role in a Hollywood blockbuster - "The Hunger Games." Based on the dystopian trilogy by American author Suzanne Collins, the films started adaptation in 2012. Thiam will play the character Clayton from District 9, joining stars such as Ralph Fiennes, Glenn Close, and Jesse Plemons.

It all started when Thiam was captivated by the role of young Simba in "The Lion King" after visiting a musical in Hamburg. This spark ignited his passion for acting, leading him to join the theater club at his Christian private school and landing his first leading role.

Thiam's journey to "The Hunger Games" began on May 18, 2025, when he received a call from his agent about a casting for the film. The filming is currently taking place in Spain, with the release date set for November 2026.

With big plans for his career and an ambitious spirit, Thiam is considering a move to Berlin. In the coming weeks, he will shoot a short film in Bielefeld with local city theater actors. The casting director who invited him to the German "Tribute of Panem" castings is Jacqueline Rietz.

Thiam's star continues to rise, and we can't wait to see what he does next.
