Drones from Russia overhead in Ukraine's sky
In a series of escalating events, Ukraine has been under attack from Russian combat aircraft and drones overnight, with Kyiv, Cherkasy, Chernihiv, and other cities experiencing explosions.
The Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, was hit with one of the heaviest attacks in three and a half years of war. According to the latest official figures, at least 25 people lost their lives in the attack on Kyiv. An industrial building in Zaporizhzhia was also set on fire as a result of the Russian attack, but no casualties have been reported there as of the latest update.
Russian President Vladimir Putin reportedly incited the Russian armed forces to attack Kyiv with combat drones and rockets as a form of retaliation for Ukrainian attacks with ATACMS missiles. The attack on Kyiv involved the launch of several cruise missiles and was carried out using a combination of combat drones and missiles.
The Ukrainian air force reported instances of their air defense engaging with the drones, and it's unclear whether the explosions in Kyiv were due to air defense or impact. Six Russian strategic bombers were reportedly involved in the attack on Ukraine.
Explosions were also heard in Cherkasy and Chernihiv, but the cause of the explosions in Kyiv remains unclear. The Russian military launched an attack on Ukraine overnight using over 100 combat drones across various regions.
The Ukrainian air defense has been active during the attack, with reports of instances of engagement with the drones. It's important to note that this ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine continues to pose significant risks to civilian populations and infrastructure.
