Dubai authorities apprehend a minibus filled with illegal gas cylinders
In a recent statement, Brigadier Jumaa Bin Suwaidan, Acting Director of the General Department of Traffic, emphasised the importance of road safety and public awareness. The warning was issued following an incident where a minibus was impounded in the Al Quoz Industrial Area for dangerous modification and excessive gas cylinder transportation.
The minibus, which had its seats removed to carry an excessive number of gas cylinders, posed a grave danger to both the driver and other road users. The impounded vehicle and the driver have been referred to the competent authorities for legal action.
Brigadier Bin Suwaidan reiterated the importance of following traffic laws and urged the public to report suspicious or reckless behavior to the "We Are All Police" service, which can be contacted via 901 or the Dubai Police smart app. He highlighted that any collision, leakage, or unsafe storage could have resulted in catastrophic fires or explosions.
Dubai Police are committed to road safety through continuous monitoring, surveillance, and regular traffic campaigns. The authority is dedicated to ensuring that the city's roads remain safe for all users. Bin Suwaidan emphasised the importance of public cooperation in maintaining road safety.
The driver in this case is being prosecuted for offenses including participation in a forbidden motor vehicle race (ยง 315d StGB) and possibly dangerous driving behaviors that endanger road safety. Penalties for such offenses can include imprisonment up to five years, fines, and license suspension or vehicle confiscation.
In addition to this, Dubai Police have issued a warning against transporting gas cylinders in private, unlicensed vehicles without proper signage. The authority is reminding the public that such actions can lead to criminal offenses and potential life-threatening incidents.
Brigadier Bin Suwaidan did not mention any specific incident in his recent statements, but his warning serves as a reminder for all road users to prioritise safety and follow traffic laws. The statements were made in relation to the impounded minibus incident, but the message extends to all road users in the city.
Dubai Police continues to prioritise road safety through continuous monitoring, surveillance, and regular traffic campaigns. The authority is committed to ensuring that the city's roads remain safe and secure for all users.
