Dusseldorf faces a delay in parcel deliveries due to labor action taken by workers at DHL.

In ongoing wage negotiations between Deutsche Post and the United Services Trade Union (ver.di), no agreement has been reached in the third round of talks. The latest offer presented by Deutsche Post, according to Thomas Großtück, head of the postal services, logistics, and transport sector in North Rhine-Westphalia, is deemed insufficient by ver.di.

The offer includes wage increases of 1.8 percent from July 1, 2025, and an additional 2.0 percent from October 1, 2026. However, ver.di is demanding a linear wage increase of seven percent for the approximately 170,000 wage employees, trainees, and dual students at Deutsche Post AG.

In addition to wage increases, ver.di is also pushing for three additional vacation days for wage employees and trainees, with an extra day for union members. The employers' offer, on the other hand, includes only an adjustment to the vacation regulation, granting some employees an additional vacation day.

The employers' offer also includes a contract period of 27 months until March 31, 2027, while ver.di is demanding a contract period of twelve months. The next round of negotiations is scheduled for March 3/4, 2025.

The current stalemate has led to warning strikes by employees in North Rhine-Westphalia's parcel centers from Tuesday evening (25.2.) to Wednesday morning (26.2.). According to ver.di, there may be widespread delays in the delivery of parcels from Wednesday.

ver.di also expects an improved offer in the fourth round of negotiations next week that is conducive to an agreement. The union is also demanding the continuation of the postal allowance for company civil servants, as well as a 7 percent increase in training allowances for 12 months.

The ongoing negotiations come at a time when prices in supermarkets continue to rise, leading to noticeable real wage losses for employees. ver.di is advocating for fair wages and working conditions for its members. The outcome of these negotiations will significantly impact the lives of many Deutsche Post employees in Germany.
