Dusseldorf Harbor Incident: Police Chase Concludes in Road Crash - Two Men Suffer Severe Injuries - Driver's Potential Intoxication from Drugs and Alcohol Suspect
In a tragic turn of events, a traffic accident occurred early Saturday morning in Düsseldorf harbor. The incident involved a VW Golf, which collided with a pillar under a raised bridge, resulting in severe injuries for the driver and passenger.
The VW Golf, heavily damaged in the accident, is now likely a total loss. The driver, a 26-year-old from Aachen, and the passenger, another 26-year-old from the same city, managed to free themselves from the wreckage before being taken to nearby hospitals.
Initial findings at the scene suggested that the driver had been under the influence of drugs and alcohol. This suspicion was further supported by indications at the accident site and the driver's subsequent behaviour. The driver ignored police signals and accelerated at high speed, fleeing from a police checkpoint on Plock Street.
Further investigations revealed that the driver had previously been involved in similar traffic offenses using the same vehicle. As a result, the driver's license was confiscated following the accident.
The police are likely to investigate the incident further, given the circumstances of the accident, the driver's suspected drug and alcohol consumption, and his previous traffic offenses.
In a separate incident, a motorcycle collision was reported in Solingen on July 4, 2025. A currently unidentified man riding a Kawasaki Z1000 collided with a bus and fled the scene. The motorcycle involved was reported stolen with a falsified license plate, indicating possible prior criminal activity involving the same vehicle brand.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of impaired driving and the importance of road safety. The public is urged to drive responsibly and to report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
