Dyson V11's cleaning prowess was impressive during my testing at a bustling pet sanctuary, particularly in managing pet hair, dirt, and debris, and it handled all the chaos I presented.
The market for cordless vacuums has seen a surge in innovation, with Dyson leading the charge. Three of Dyson's flagship models, the V11, V15 Detect, and Gen5 Detect, offer a range of features tailored to different user preferences.
The Dyson V11, an older flagship model, remains a popular choice due to its balanced power-to-weight ratio. With 185 air watts of suction power, it never needed to use boost mode to clear everything in one or two passes on low-pile carpet. Its washable, lifetime HEPA filter is a cost-effective maintenance feature, as it can be cleaned by rinsing and air drying instead of needing to be replaced.
The V11's runtime on eco mode without the motorized floorhead attached can reach up to 67 minutes, making it a cordless stick vacuum with a runtime of up to 67 minutes. It has three suction modes (Eco, Med, Boost) and a whole-machine HEPA filtration system, effectively picking up various types of dirt and hair without tangling.
On hard floors, the V11 cleared hair, dirt, dust, stones, and other debris in one pass, every time. The V11's brushroll did not tangle with pet hair during testing. Its noise levels range from 65 to 80.2 decibels, which is fairly standard for most cordless vacuums.
The V11 performed excellently in tests using flour and sugar on both hardwood/linoleum and carpet surfaces. It can maneuver easily, getting between chair legs or passing from soft to hard flooring with little fuss. The V11 cleaned pet hair from thick rugs and carpets more effectively than some of the best corded vacuums at Bristol ARC.
The V11's attachments, including the crevice tool and combination tool, were effective in vacuuming various areas in the pet shelter, such as baseboards, sofa cushions, and thick, padded chairs. The combination tool's rugged, rubber strip helps to agitate dirt and hair in fabrics, making it easy to vacuum pet hair from fabric.
The Dyson V15 Detect improves over the V11 with about 30% more suction (240 AW) and the innovative laser dust detection technology to find hidden dirt. It offers better battery efficiency and longer runtime in Boost mode.
The Gen5 Detect is the newest and most powerful Dyson cordless vacuum, boasting the highest suction (262 AW) and longest battery life, but also the heaviest handle weight (4.9 lbs). It uses an on/off button instead of a trigger, which reduces finger fatigue.
Each model suits different preferences: the Gen5 for ultimate power and runtime with newer controls; the V15 for a mix of power and dust detection tech; the V11 for lighter, ergonomic use with solid performance.
