ED calls on Shikhar Dhawan for questioning in the matter of an illicit betting application scandal
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned former Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan for questioning on Thursday, as part of an ongoing investigation into money laundering and illegal betting activities linked to the app 1xBet.
The investigation, which is a breaking story, is centred around allegations that the app has defrauded numerous people and investors in crores of rupees, and has also evaded a substantial amount of taxes. The ED is investigating multiple cases involving illegal betting apps, with the 1xBet case being one of them.
The former cricketer is understood to have been linked to the app through certain endorsements. Last month, another former cricketer, Suresh Raina, was also questioned by the federal probe agency in relation to this case.
The ED wants to understand Dhawan's links with the app during the questioning. The investigation is ongoing, and more information will be added soon. The ED will record Dhawan's statement under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
