Educator Accused of Attempting to Take Life of Spouse
In a court appearance, Nazmi Izzuddin Zubairi, 30, did not enter a plea regarding the charge against him. The alleged incident occurred at his home in Taman Tunas Muda, Sungai Ara, at approximately 5:45am on Aug 27.
Nazmi is accused of attempting to murder Hanis Sofea Hamdan, 28, with a knife. The charge against him is under Section 307 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum jail term of 20 years upon conviction.
Deputy public prosecutor R Lushani led the prosecution, and the defence did not object. The charge was read in court, and Nazmi failed to understand it.
The judge, Ahzal Fariz Ahmad Khairuddin, granted the prosecution's application for Nazmi to be sent to Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta in Perak for a psychiatric evaluation. The court fixed Oct 8 for the submission of the evaluation report.
Nazmi had been under a six-day police remand, which expired on the day of the court appearance. He was represented by Muhaimin Hashim, Yazid Khairul Azman, and Ismat Arif Abu Hassan.
It is not specified where the court appearance took place or which psychiatrists conducted the psychiatric assessment of Nazmi Izzuddin Zubairi at Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta in Perak. The case will continue on Oct 8, with the submission of the evaluation report.
