"Eight individuals, long-absent from Asturias after seven decades, are now welcomed back to the city"

In the heart of the Spanish region of Asturias, a heartwarming initiative is underway. The Government of Asturias is promoting a new edition of the Anóranza program, an effort aimed at facilitating the transfer and stay of emigrant people in the community.

Vice President Gimena Llamedo has expressed her admiration for the program, describing it as one of the most touching initiatives promoted by the government. She emphasized the commitment to promote the participation of the Asturian community abroad and maintain ties with Asturias beyond physical distance.

Eight individuals, aged between 70 and 83, have been selected for this edition. Hailing from Oviedo, Gijón, Avilés, Mieres, Langreo, Villaviciosa, Cangas de Onís, and Ribadesella, these participants have lived more than seventy years in Venezuela and Argentina. Some of them have not set foot in Asturias for almost 80 years.

The program allows these participants to visit their home councils, as well as other representative places of Asturias and emigration such as Covadonga, Cangas de Onís, Colombres, Oviedo, or Gijón. They will also reunite with their families in various locations within Asturias, including Cabrales, Llanes, Gijón, Candás, Mieres, Cangas de Onís, and Ribadesella.

The Principality organises cultural activities and dissemination of the current reality of the community for the participants of the Anóranza program. This edition aims to settle an emotional debt with emigration and foster the participation of the external community in the social and cultural life of the Principality.

Meanwhile, international news has been dominated by events in other parts of the world. The Congress of Peru is considering declaring Sheinbaum a 'persona non grata' for her support for the former president Castillo. In the Middle East, countries in the region have condemned the Israeli attack in the capital of Qatar, where the son of a high-ranking Hamas official died in an Israeli attack. The Palestinian Authority firmly condemns the Israeli bombing.

Elsewhere, the Global Sumud Flotilla has denounced a drone attack against one of its ships in Tunisia. These events serve as a stark reminder of the complexities and challenges faced by various communities around the world.

In contrast, the Anóranza program offers a beacon of hope and a testament to the power of community and connection. It's a reminder that despite the distances that may separate us, the bonds we share can never truly be broken.
