EIOH Spotlight on Resident: Dr. Diaa Allahham's Professional Journey
Dr. Diaa Allahham, a talented orthodontist, has achieved a significant milestone in his career. He recently placed second in the NESO and the Dr. William Proffit resident scholar award program for his Master's project. This accomplishment is a testament to his hard work and dedication.
Born and raised in Damascus, Syria, Dr. Allahham's journey to becoming an orthodontist was not an easy one. Due to the war crisis in his home country, he moved to Egypt. However, his resilience and determination never wavered.
Upon graduating with a dental degree from Misr University for Science and Technology in Egypt, Dr. Allahham's dream of becoming an orthodontist finally came true when he was accepted into the prestigious Eastman Institute for Oral Health (EIOH). He chose EIOH due to its strong orthodontics department, its reputation as a well-known academic institution, the unique family environment, and the solid American Board of Orthodontics preparation.
During his time at EIOH, Dr. Allahham successfully completed a Master's of Science in Dental Sciences and his project was published in the top ortho journal, AJO-DO. His best memory from his time at Rochester was receiving a phone call from Linda, the Orthodontics Administrator, informing him that he got accepted into an Orthodontics residency.
Upon graduation in 2018, Dr. Allahham pursued his lifelong dream to continue his father's legacy of orthodontics and to become the fourth orthodontist in his family. He would like to thank his family, faculty, classmates, assistants, and staff for their support during his journey at Eastman.
Dr. Allahham's long-term goal is to open his own office(s) and continue his father's orthodontic legacy. This summer, he plans to practice in a private practice setting in Texas. He will miss the faculty, classmates, and the welcoming environment at Eastman but is excited for this new chapter in his life.
The EIOH experience has made Dr. Allahham a better version of himself. He has made lifelong friends during his time at Rochester and will carry the lessons he learned and the connections he made with him throughout his career. Dr. Allahham's story is a testament to the power of perseverance and the importance of following one's dreams, no matter the obstacles that may come in the way.
