Elderly Resident of Vienna Charged with Stealing Dogs
In the heart of Vienna, a 66-year-old woman is set to face trial on September 24, following a series of events involving her Samoyed dog. The defendant, who is currently in custody due to a perceived risk of reoffending, has been accused of resisting a police raid and threatening letters sent to a tax official.
The defendant, who was subject to a dog-keeping ban, owned a Samoyed dog, a breed originally used as working and sled dogs that require high levels of care. Tragically, on August 17, her Samoyed killed a toy poodle in a city center dog zone.
The police raid at her apartment took place on August 25, after she allegedly lost control and tried to bite an officer's arm when her dog was to be seized. The defendant should not have possessed the Samoyed that was found, as it was in breach of her dog-keeping ban.
Last year, hundreds of bite attacks occurred, but no information is provided about which breeds were involved. The defendant now faces a potential conviction, as well as the revocation of a one-year suspended sentence she received in 2022 for attempted abuse of office and attempted blackmail.
It is important to note that incidents involving dangerous dogs are a serious concern, and responsible pet ownership is crucial. The upcoming trial will shed light on the circumstances leading to this unfortunate incident and the defendant's actions towards the authorities. Stay tuned for further updates.
