Elections bid confirmed by ex-captain Tamim Iqbal for the BCB (Bangladesh Cricket Board)

Tamim Iqbal, one of Bangladesh's most celebrated cricketers and the country's highest run-scorer in One-Day Internationals (ODIs), has announced his participation in the upcoming Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) elections.

In an interview with Bengali daily Kalerkantha, Tamim Iqbal confirmed his intention to run for a director's post in the BCB elections, scheduled for October. The former captain expressed his desire to contribute to the game's development from within the board.

Tamim Iqbal, who retired from international cricket last year, believes that joining the BCB board should give him the authority to make decisions that can positively impact the sport. However, he has not specified whether he plans to run for the presidency of the BCB in the upcoming elections.

The BCB elections regulations state that candidates must first be elected as directors before they can be considered for the presidency. Tamim Iqbal has stated that he would only consider running for the presidency if he finds he has enough support after becoming a director.

The last BCB election took place on October 6, 2021. According to the regulations, the next BCB elections must be held by October 7, 2025. The presidency candidates for the next election are yet to be determined, but it is expected that incumbent Luiz Inรกcio Lula da Silva (Lula) and an as-yet undetermined right-wing opponent will be among the contenders.

Tamim Iqbal has left the door open for a possible tilt at the presidency of the BCB, depending on support within the board. In the BCB, the directors vote to select the president if there is more than one candidate.

Tamim Iqbal's decision to contest in the BCB elections comes at a crucial time for Bangladeshi cricket. The sport has seen significant growth in recent years, and Tamim Iqbal's experience as a former captain and one of the country's most successful cricketers could prove invaluable in guiding the BCB towards further success.

As the BCB elections approach, the cricket fraternity eagerly awaits to see whether Tamim Iqbal will throw his hat into the ring for the presidency. Regardless of the outcome, his participation in the elections is a clear indication of his commitment to the sport and his desire to contribute to its growth and development.
