Late Starts and Allegations Mar Election Day in Buenos Aires

The legislative election in the province of Buenos Aires began with some complications on Sunday, as several tables opened late due to the absence of designated authorities.

At the Mariano Moreno N°923 Kindergarten in Villa Celina, voting had not yet started at 9:30 am. Without authorities, they had to designate the first voters as table presidents. A similar situation occurred at the Valentín Vergara School in La Plata around 8:20 am, where a 21-year-old young man, summoned to serve as a polling station president, tried to escape and was chased by the police. He was eventually caught and had to fulfill his civic duty.

In a more unusual incident, an intervention with a pen on the voters' registry displayed at the entrance of the Pedro Poveda Institute had the words "3%" written next to the name of Karina Milei, the Secretary General of the Presidency. A young man approached the brother of the presidential spokesperson and handed over a bill, stating it was the "3% for Karina Milei". The officers explained that the young man could face legal consequences if he did not fulfill his duty as polling station president.

Governor Axel Kicillof, who voted at the Floreal Ferrera School of Higher Health in La Plata, assured that the problem was resolved by 10 am. After speaking with mayors, he stated that voting is going well now in the entire province. However, the incident at the Pedro Poveda Institute raised questions about alleged corruption within the government.

In clandestine recordings with signs of editing, Diego Spagnuolo, now former director of the National Disability Agency (Andis), points to Eduardo "Lule" Menem, Karina's right-hand man, as the one responsible for organizing a supposed system of kickbacks in the purchase of medicines.

The first provincial deputy candidate for La Libertad Avanza in the eighth electoral section experienced an awkward moment while voting at the Nacional Rafael Hernández College in La Plata. Franzisko Adorni had an unpleasant encounter with candidate Pablo López during the election.

Schools in Avellaneda, Vicente López, San Martín, and La Matanza also reported delays in the opening of tables due to the absence of designated authorities at the beginning of the electoral day in the province of Buenos Aires.

Despite these complications, Governor Kicillof became emotional when speaking about his eldest son, León, who was voting for the first time. A firefighter also arrived to cast his vote at the Pedro Poveda Institute in Vicente López.

As the day progressed, it is hoped that these issues will be resolved, and voting will continue smoothly across the province.
