Electric tug from DPD gets tested for potential future packages distribution

The Terberg YT203-EV electric tractor has been selected as a recipient at the upcoming fourth annual CiTTi Awards. This prestigious event, a must-attend for the UK's transportation sector, will take place on 25 November 2025 at the De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms in London.

DPD, a leading logistics company, has completed a test for the Terberg YT203-EV electric tug and expressed positive feedback about its performance. The electric tug, equipped with 2 x 78kw batteries and comprehensive regenerative braking, demonstrated similar performance to a diesel engine while offering major advantages in terms of emissions and the working environment for DPD drivers.

The YT203-EV's universal charging capability allows it to be charged at standard DC charging stations, making it a practical choice for DPD's operations. The company is considering integrating the electric tug into its HGV fleet for more sustainable operations.

DPD drivers were particularly impressed with the ease of use and driver comfort of the electric tug. In a real-world scenario, the performance of the YT203-EV was evaluated, including its charging efficiency during the day to optimize working hours.

Tim Jones, Director of Marketing, Communications & Sustainability at DPDgroup UK, praised the electric tug, stating that it has the potential for more sustainable shunting and a better working environment. DPD operates a fleet of over 50 tugs for trailer movements across its central sorting hubs, and the company is exploring ways to integrate EVs into its HGV fleet.

To provide a visualization of the YT203-EV's performance over a 24-hour period using real-life customer data, DPD stated that Terberg DTS can offer such a service.
