Polestar 3 Sets New Guinness World Record for Longest Journey by an Electric SUV

The Polestar 3, an electric SUV, has made history by setting a new Guinness World Record for the longest journey travelled by an electric SUV on a single charge. The record-breaking journey, which took 22 hours and 57 minutes to complete, was undertaken in mixed weather conditions including rain.

The Polestar 3 Long Range Single Motor in New Zealand, equipped with a 111kWh battery, achieved an efficiency of 12.1kWh/100km during the journey. The vehicle's impressive performance was verified by Webfleet, who provided documentation and independently verified video footage, odometer readings, GPS readings, and battery level data for the Polestar 3's record attempt.

Professional "efficiency drivers" Sam Clarke, Kevin Booker, and Richard Parker took turns every 3 hours to maintain alertness during the drive. The record-breaking journey highlighted the Polestar 3's potential as a viable alternative to traditional internal combustion engine vehicles for long-distance travel.

The Polestar 3 Long Range Single Motor in New Zealand has not undergone any modifications for the record attempt. It is available in New Zealand as the entry point to the lineup, with a starting price of $149,990. The model is powered by a 220kW engine and delivers 490Nm of torque.

The Polestar 3 Long Range Single Motor surpassed the previous record-holder, the Ford Mustang Mach-E (916.72km). After showing 0% battery, the Polestar 3 delivered an extra 12.8km before reaching a charger, demonstrating its ability to travel further than indicated by its battery percentage.

The Polestar 3 achieved its WLTP figure of 706km with 20% of its battery capacity still available. The vehicle was driven on standard 20-inch wheels fitted with standard Michelin Sport 4 EV tyres during the record-breaking journey.

Guinness World Records judge, Paulina Sapinska, adjudicated the Polestar 3's record-breaking journey. Fabio Becvar, who drove the Polestar 3 to a production-standard range record of 935.44 km on a single charge during a road trip in Germany, was at the helm of the record-breaking vehicle.

The Polestar 3's record-breaking journey was undertaken to showcase its long range capabilities on public roads. The achievement serves as a testament to the vehicle's potential as a practical and sustainable option for long-distance travel.
