Elias Sime's Performance at Düsseldorf's Kunstpalast Involving Wire Rope

In the heart of Düsseldorf, Germany, the Kunstpalast is playing host to a captivating solo exhibition by Ethiopian artist Elias Sime. Titled "Echo", the exhibition showcases Sime's unique and thought-provoking art, running until June 1, 2025.

Sime, who prefers to stay in his homeland and speaks little English, has gained global recognition for his innovative approach to art. His work is a testament to the beauty that can be found in the discarded and the overlooked, as he constructs wonderful, sometimes monumental reliefs and objects from materials like braided cables, sawed circuit boards, and countless discarded parts.

One of the standout pieces in the exhibition is "Noiseless", created by Sime in 2019 as part of the "Tightrope" series. In this four-meter-long abstract composition, two amphibious creatures hover, with green mysterious elements interwoven throughout. The composition follows a sketch by the artist and includes elements such as dancing figures, waves, and landscapes. "Noiseless" features plastic islands in the sea of blue cables, consisting of countless individual keys, letters, numbers, and symbols.

Another intriguing piece is "Dichotomy", created by Sime in 2023/24. The exact nature of this object is left to the viewer's interpretation, but its intricate design and thoughtful construction are undeniably captivating.

Sime's art partner is Meskerem Assegued, and together they have created a number of compelling pieces. One such work is "Monkeys, Frogs and Televisions", small sculptures made by Sime in 2005.

The exhibition also includes an interactive studio, inviting visitors to participate in a creative session with wires and other materials. For those interested in learning more about Sime's work, a splendid catalogue for the exhibition costs 29.80 euros and features many detail shots in landscape format.

The curator of the exhibition is Felicity Korn, and this marks Sime's first solo show in the German-speaking world. Sime's art has been noticed globally, with his first solo exhibition in the USA at the Santa Monica Museum of Art in 2009.

The exhibition "Elias Sime: Echo" is open Tuesday to Sunday from 11 am to 6 pm, and Thursday until 9 pm. Information and tickets for the exhibition can be found at www.kunstpalast.de. Don't miss this opportunity to immerse yourself in the unique and thought-provoking world of Elias Sime.
