Elon Musk Sparks Netflix Boycott Over Diversity and Content Row

Elon Musk has sparked a boycott of Netflix, encouraging followers to 'Cancel Netflix' on his X platform. The campaign, supported by conservative social media accounts, targets Netflix's diversity efforts and a controversy involving the creator of a Netflix movie, 'Dead End: Paranormal Park'.

The controversy surrounds the movie's creator, Hamish Steele, who was accused of making disrespectful remarks about conservative activist Charlie Kirk's assassination. Steele denied the accusations, calling them 'lies and slander' in now-deleted Bluesky posts. Musk, who has a personal connection to transgender issues as his eldest daughter transitioned in 2022, previously claimed that his child was 'killed' by the 'woke mind virus' instilled at an elite California school. The campaign to cancel Netflix was started by conservative social media account Libs of TikTok, citing 'Dead End: Paranormal Park' and Netflix's diversity efforts as reasons.

The boycott has had an impact on Netflix's shares, which fell two percent on Wednesday and another two percent on Thursday due to the controversy.
