Emergency responders from THW Bayern are being dispatched to the affected region of Saarland due to the flood.
The Bavarian branch of the Technical Relief Organization (THW) is preparing to offer vital assistance in a disaster-stricken area. Approximately 50 THW deployment forces, specialised in flood disasters, are leaving for the affected region today.
These volunteers hail from six local associations – Alzenau, Lohr, Obernburg, Ochsenfurt, Simbach am Inn, and Marktheidenfeld. The squad troop will coordinate the Bavarian THW units on-site, ensuring a seamless and efficient response.
THW is a globally recognised organisation, deployed by the federal government to provide technical and logistical assistance within the framework of the European Union's civil protection mechanism and on behalf of UN organisations. Half of the THW volunteers are deployment forces, forming the backbone of THW's work in civil protection.
The THW's special unit for water damage/pumping is making its way to the city of Mainz in the coming hours. Three specialist groups for water damage/pumps, one specialist group for power supply, and a squad troop will be dispatched to Saarland.
The water damage/pumping units boast large-capacity pumps that can pump an impressive 25,000 litres per minute. Meanwhile, the specialist group for power supply will provide electricity using a 175 kVA emergency power supply unit. The generator can operate independently to provide an independent power supply in the disaster area, ensuring critical infrastructure can be maintained in crisis situations.
THW is highly valued for its specialist knowledge and diverse experiences, often supporting fire departments, police, aid organisations, and others in times of need. With a nationwide commitment of over 88,000 volunteers, THW is a formidable force in emergency response.

The Bavarian THW forces are expected to remain on-site until Tuesday. The deployment comes as no surprise, as the Bavarian THW forces are experienced, having prepared for such disasters with realistic exercises.
THW's deployment squad will travel to the disaster area with up to seven trucks and three truck trailers. As the situation unfolds, the Bavarian THW forces will work tirelessly to alleviate the impact of the disaster and help restore normalcy to the affected region.
