Emergency services from THW Bayern are being deployed to the stricken region of Saarland, following a devastating flood.
The THW Regional Association Bavaria has announced the deployment of a specialist squad for water damage and pumps, along with three other specialist groups, to Saarland in response to a recent disaster.
According to the latest updates from THW Regional Association Bavaria, transmitted via news aktuell, approximately 50 deployment forces are departing today. This deployment is part of the European Union's civil protection mechanism and on behalf of UN organizations.
The Water Damage/Pumps specialist units are equipped with large-capacity pumps capable of pumping 25,000 liters per minute. These units, along with a squad troop for coordination, will be supported by the THW's nationwide cooperation, although the specific organization assigned to assist in Saarland in the next hours is not yet named.
In addition to the Water Damage/Pumps specialist units, a group specializing in Electrical Power Supply will provide power using a 175 kVA emergency power supply unit. This unit is capable of feeding power into switchgear rooms and operating independently to provide power in the disaster area.
The Bavarian THW forces are experienced, having prepared for such disasters through realistic exercises. The volunteer deployment forces are from six local associations: Alzenau, Lohr, Obernburg, Ochsenfurt, Simbach am Inn, and Marktheidenfeld.
The THW, a federal voluntary emergency organization with over 88,000 volunteers nationwide, half of whom are deployment forces, is a sought-after supporter for fire departments, police, aid organizations, and others due to its specialist knowledge and diverse experiences.
