Emergency workers successfully extricate 12 individuals from a fire at Kellerbrand, located in Grevenbroich.
A significant fire broke out in a multi-family building on Cologne Street in Grevenbroich's city centre at around 7:30 PM on Saturday.
The fire started in the basement of the building, prompting an immediate response from the Grevenbroich Fire Department and emergency services. Around 70 firefighters from Grevenbroich and surrounding municipalities were on site, along with numerous emergency and ambulance vehicles.
Eyewitnesses reported heavy smoke coming from the basement and that there were still people in the building. Firefighters used ladders to rescue twelve residents, including ten adults and two children, from the burning building. Fortunately, most of the affected people were uninjured. However, two individuals were taken to hospitals for further examination.
The incident commander, Christoph Nott, upgraded the incident to "MANV 10" (Mass Casualty Incident) due to the large number of affected people. The leading physician and the organisational leader of the emergency services were also present.
Firefighters found the source of the fire in a basement room and began extinguishing the burning items stored there. The last extinguishing measures were completed, and the basement was cleared of smoke around 1.5 hours after the alarm.
Unfortunately, the building and apartments remain uninhabitable due to the presence of smoke. The Grevenbroich municipal authority has arranged temporary accommodation for the residents. However, the responsible organization for the temporary accommodation of the victims of the fire in Grevenbroich is not explicitly mentioned in the provided search results.
The Fire Department cannot make statements about the cause of the fire or the extent of the damage at this time.
