Encouragement and Incentives for Young Bicycle Riders

In the heart of Bamberg, the Youth Traffic School hosted an exciting bicycle tournament for primary and special school students. A total of 59 young cyclists, hailing from various schools in the city, qualified for this year's competition.

The tournament, which took place on a challenging obstacle course, was focused on safely mastering the bicycle rather than adhering to traffic rules. The obstacle course included track and plank, roundabout, slalom, figure eight, and braking to a stop.

During the tournament, balance and control over the bike were the main factors, with hand signals not being required. After a practice round and an ice cream break, organised by Matthias Wenninger from the Bamberg Traffic Safety Association, the scoring round took place. This round evaluated error-free riding and time.

The formal award ceremony for the bicycle tournament took place after the lunch break. Deputy Mayor and Environmental Officer Jonas Glüsenkamp welcomed the participants, calling it the "hottest award ceremony of the year." He praised the young participants for their bike handling skills during the tournament.

Police Chief Florian Mayer and traffic educators Jana Rodriguez and Kathrin Lieberth also attended the ceremony. They rewarded the children's performances and presented them with the city of Bamberg's prizes, which were donated by the Sparkasse Bamberg.

The coveted prizes were determined based on the scoring round results. The best three boys were Enrico Millich from Bartolomeo-Garelli-Schule, Samuel Günther from Kunigundenschule, and Manuel Datz from Kaulbergschule/Bug. The best three girls were Nora Brauer from Kunigundenschule, Cleo Schimmeyer from Rupprechtschule, and Aurelia Weismantel from Hainschule.

In recognition of their outstanding performances, the six best cyclists were awarded certificates and prizes. Deputy Mayor Jonas Glüsenkamp and Police Chief Florian Mayer were delighted to honour these young talents.

The tournament concluded with a sense of achievement and excitement, marking another successful year for the Bamberg Youth Traffic School.
