Amina Hatia, a dedicated midwife at London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust, is making a significant impact on the lives of expectant mothers and their families. Hatia's work extends beyond the hospital, as she is also actively involved in cultural safety and antenatal care.

Hatia's day-to-day duties involve using a pinard to listen to a foetus's heart rate, checking in with newborns at her local mosque's annual Eid prayers, and providing support for expectant mothers in advocating for their maternity care choices within the NHS.

Hatia's passion for maternity care is deeply rooted in her own experiences. Her first pregnancy and birth were not particularly positive, but her second experience was life-changing. This transformation has fueled her determination to promote personalized care and move away from judgement in maternity care.

Hatia's expertise is highly valued by pregnancy charity Tommy's and Doulas Without Borders (DWB), where she provides expert knowledge and training. She has been instrumental in setting up DWB's Mother Tongue project and helps DWB's doulas navigate cases involving infant loss.

Hatia's commitment to her profession also extends to her personal life. Her daughter, Aylin, is also a midwife, and Hatia recently passed her midwifery duties to her, who is a newly graduated midwife.

Hatia finds hope and optimism in her breadth of experience across the public and charity sectors. She expresses confidence in the change happening on all levels towards improving maternity care. Hatia's expertise in infant loss is utilized in guiding families from tragedy to hope, and she finds the small impacts she has on people, especially on expectant parents, to be powerful at the end of her working day.

In her spare time, Hatia enjoys cooking South Asian and Middle Eastern food for her family and friends, reflecting her cultural heritage and her warm, welcoming nature.

As Hatia continues to make a difference in the lives of countless families, her passion for maternity care and her commitment to promoting personalized, judgement-free care remain unwavering.
