England vs South Africa ODI rosters: Who's participating, who's absent?
England and South Africa are all set to lock horns in a thrilling three-match One-Day International (ODI) series, commencing this week. The series, scheduled to take place between September 2 and September 7, provides both teams with an opportunity to test their mettle outside of a World Cup year.
The English squad for the series includes captain Harry Brook, Rehan Ahmed, Jofra Archer, Sonny Baker (making his debut in a senior international squad, following his impressive performance in The Hundred), Tom Banton, Jacob Bethell, Jos Buttler (wicket-keeper), Brydon Carse, Ben Duckett, Will Jacks, Saqib Mahmood, Jamie Overton, Adil Rashid, Joe Root, Jamie Smith (wicket-keeper), and Phil Salt.
South Africa, on the other hand, has retained the squad that won them the series in Australia. The team includes Corbin Bosch, Matthew Breetzke, Dewald Brevis, Nandre Burger, Tony de Zorzi, Keshav Maharaj, Kwena Maphaka, Aiden Markram, Wiaan Mulder, Senuran Muthusamy, Lungi Ngidi, Lhuan-dre Pretorius, Tristan Stubbs, and Captain Temba Bavuma, who is returning from a hamstring injury sustained during the WTC final.
Kagiso Rabada, who is managing an ankle injury, is likely not available for South Africa until the T20I series. However, he has been included in the ODI squad. In his absence, Kwena Maphaka could potentially replace Rabada, who suffered an ankle fracture and is likely to be available only by the T20I series. Bavuma, who played the first and third ODIs in Australia but was rested for the second to manage his workload, is expected to be managed in a similar way in England.
South Africa recently showcased their resilience by beating Australia in an ODI contest, despite conceding over 400 in the final match of the series. The final match of the England-South Africa series will be played three days later in Southampton at Utilita Bowl. The second match will be held two days later in an unspecified location, while the third match will be held at Lord's on September 4.
This series promises to be an exciting affair, with both teams eager to prove their mettle. Fans can look forward to a series filled with high-octane cricket action.
