Enhanced Information Technology Security Standard for Fire Prevention and Safety Technology Equipment

In a bid to address growing concerns about cybersecurity in the field of fire protection and safety technology, a new specification has been developed. This collaborative effort between VdS Schadenverhütung GmbH and the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) in Germany is set to improve cybersecurity for components of fire protection and safety technology.

Sandro Amendola, head of the department for Standardization, Certification, and Testing at BSI, plays a key role in facilitating certification processes and enhancing transparency and trust in digital security products and services. He stated that the new IT security label will provide guidance for network-enabled safety technology in the home.

The IT security label is an extension of the PROVE specification 6063, providing additional guidance and incentives for companies to prioritize cybersecurity in their smart safety products. It serves as a tool for companies to differentiate their products based on their cybersecurity features, contributing to establishing a reliable security level in the market for smart safety products.

The new PROVE specification 6063:2025-08, titled "Cybersecurity for Components of Fire Protection and Safety Technology," is available for free download. VdS Schadenverhütung GmbH made the draft of the new specification available since mid-August.

Companies can apply for the IT security label for smart safety products that meet the criteria of the PROVE specification 6063. Receiving the label signifies a company's commitment to providing secure products to consumers. Sandro Amendola, from BSI, mentioned that the IT security label is a means for companies to demonstrate the cybersecurity level of their smart safety products.

The IT security label is specifically designed for network-enabled safety technology in the home. It provides a framework for demonstrating an appropriate cybersecurity level for end-user components of fire protection and safety technology. By adhering to this standard, companies can build trust with their customers and ensure the safety and security of their smart safety products.
