Enhanced Safety Aim on Motorcycle Routes: Synopsis of the Collaborative Action Day in Hagen, Siegen-Wittgenstein, and Märk District Among Three Authorities

Police Crackdown on Speeding Motorcycles in Joint Action Day

On May 18, 2025, a large-scale action day was conducted by the police in Hagen, Siegen-Wittgenstein, and Märkischer Kreis, aiming to prevent motorcycle accidents and strengthen traffic safety on popular regional routes. The Polizeipräsidium Hagen led the joint operation, with support from the traffic safety association, DEKRA, and the German Red Cross.

During the action day, police officers carried out speed and vehicle checks at several control points in Hagen, resulting in around 140 speeding offenses (both cars and motorcycles) and several mobile phone offenses. In Wilnsdorf and Burbach, approximately 2,500 cars and motorcycles were measured in speed checks, with around 130 exceeding the speed limit, including 12 motorcycles. In the Märkischer Kreis, 35 motorcycle drivers were caught speeding.

Technical checks on all motorcycles in Siegen-Wittgenstein revealed no issues, but in the Märkischer Kreis, a total of 13 motorcycles were found to have technical defects, including problems with tires and exhaust systems. One motorcycle driver from Lünen could not present the required driver's license for his Honda, leading to a criminal investigation.

A motorcycle driver from Siegen-Wittgenstein was measured at 151 km/h with his Kawasaki, exceeding the permitted 100 km/h. As a result, one motorcycle driver faces a driving ban for being measured 56 km/h over the speed limit.

Traffic safety advisors conducted preventive conversations at an information stand in the "applause curve" between Hilchenbach and Netphen in Siegen-Wittgenstein. In the popular "applause curve" on the Nordhelle, the German Red Cross demonstrated first aid. Traffic safety advisors were also present at the Hengsteysee, offering airbag vests and "drunk goggles" for testing.

Car drivers were addressed and sensitized to the dangers with accident videos. The police authorities wish all motorcycle drivers a safe season and appeal for responsible driving. They also thank all parties involved for their cooperation and support in ensuring a safer driving environment in the region. Similar deployments are already planned for the future.
