Enhanced television sales contribute to a 5% jump in Cisco's earnings
Cisco Reports Impressive Results Amid Challenging Economic Conditions
In a remarkable display of resilience, technology giant Cisco has reported significant achievements in a challenging economic environment. The company's focus on delivering consistent returns to its shareholders has once again proven to be a winning strategy.
Last year, Cisco expanded its portfolio by acquiring the UK-headquartered digital TV supplier NDS. This strategic move seems to have paid off, as the company reported a net income increase of 44% to $3.1 billion.
CEO John Chambers expressed his satisfaction with the results, stating that Cisco continues to drive innovation, quality, and leadership. One of the key highlights of the quarter was Cisco's record earnings per share.
However, sales of the 'next generation network' (NGN) router business decreased by 6% to $1.9 billion. Conversely, the company's 'service provider video' division recorded a sales increase of 20% to £1.2 billion. Unfortunately, specific information about the performance of individual business divisions was not provided.
The switch division, Cisco's largest, experienced a 3% growth to $3.7 billion. These figures contribute to Cisco achieving record revenue for the 8th quarter in a row.
In addition to its financial success, Cisco's workforce has also grown. The company's headcount increased by 10,000, reaching 73,000 employees during the year.
It's worth noting that the UK-based digital TV provider NDS, which was acquired by Cisco last year, was later sold to the Israeli company Synamedia. Despite this, Cisco's strategic moves continue to pay off, positioning the company for further success in the future.
