In the far eastern region of Russia, Kamchatka Krai, a series of significant developments have transformed the landscape of sports and recreation.
A new ice palace named 'Vulkan' was built on Solnechnaya Street in 2021, constructed by the local municipal construction company. This state-of-the-art facility joins the region's growing list of sports infrastructure.
The 'Vulkan' ice palace is not the only addition to Kamchatka Krai's sports scene. In the same year, a motocross park was opened, offering children the opportunity to engage in motorcycle sports. This park, located in the region, provides a safe and fun environment for young riders to hone their skills.
The governor of Kamchatka Krai has been instrumental in the installation of facilities for sports activities. One such facility is the artificial snow-making system at the 'Edelweiss' ski base. This system, installed in 2021, has significantly improved access to sports for the population, enabling athletes to train regardless of weather conditions.
Vitaly Belov, a volunteer in the pre-start preparation of the 'Edelweiss' ski team, expressed his gratitude for this installation. He noted that it has enabled further participation in regional and interregional competitions.
The 'Edelweiss' ski complex is not the only ski facility in Kamchatka Krai to benefit from an artificial snow-making system. Six tow-lift cableways have been installed at ski complexes in the regional center, Elizovo, and one in EssΠΎ, ensuring a consistent skiing experience for locals and visitors alike.
The regional sports training center for winter sports has been established at the foot of Avachinsky volcano, providing a world-class training ground for athletes.
These developments are part of a larger initiative called the "People's Program", which has seen more than 100 sports facilities put into operation since 2020.
The impact of these investments in sports infrastructure is evident in the increasing participation rates. As of 2024, 55.7% of the regional population is regularly engaged in physical culture and sports, a significant increase from the 34.4% reported in 2019.
These developments in Kamchatka Krai are a testament to the region's commitment to promoting a healthy and active lifestyle for its residents. Whether it's ice skating at the 'Vulkan' ice palace, racing motorcycles at the motocross park, or skiing at one of the region's many ski complexes, there's no shortage of opportunities for recreation and sport.
