In a thrilling turn of events, German cycling sensation Florian Lipowitz has once again ignited a wave of euphoria, similar to the impact of Jan Ullrich's success in the past. Lipowitz's third-place finish at the Tour de France has reignited the Tour de France fever, bringing cycling back into the spotlight in Germany.

The renewed interest in cycling, tarnished in the past by doping scandals, is pleasing to fellow countryman Georg Zimmermann. Zimmermann attributes the renewed interest to the contributions of Lipowitz, stating there's a real buzz about cycling in Germany again.

The name of the sporting director of the upcoming Deutschland Tour, Fabian Wegmann, is no stranger to cycling success. Wegmann, a former pro cyclist with three German championship titles, will be involved in route planning for the 2025 Deutschland Tour. This year's event, where Lipowitz was the celebrated star, registered "by far the most spectators" according to Wegmann.

Despite a mishap on the second stage of the Deutschland Tour, where Lipowitz collided with a power pole after an evasive maneuver, resulting in bruises on his hand, shoulder, and knee, he showed incredible resilience. Lipowitz, despite his injuries, signed autographs and played a supporting role in the overall victory of the Norwegian Soren Waerenskjold in the Deutschland Tour.

Lipowitz also helped Dutch cyclist Danny van Poppel return to the leading group on the third stage. However, van Poppel was later demoted by the race jury after blocking Matthew Brennan's path with a swerve. Tadej Pogacar, the four-time Tour de France champion, criticized the race jury for van Poppel's demotion, stating it was an "absolute joke" and "not correct."

Looking ahead, Lipowitz plans to attack again in the coming weeks at WorldTour races in Canada and autumn classics in Italy. A German victory at the Deutschland Tour could be on Lipowitz's agenda next year, as the profile of the event would need to be made more challenging for a German triumph.

The last German victory at the Deutschland Tour was four years ago by Nils Politt, and the last German stage victory was in 2021. Lipowitz's third place at the Tour de France has certainly rekindled hopes for a German victory in the near future. Lipowitz expressed his gratitude to his home crowd for their support in France, and it's clear that his journey is far from over.
