Escalating tensions over drug control between the US and Venezuela

In a bid to combat the growing drug crisis, the US government has prioritized the fight against drugs, with a particular focus on fentanyl due to its rapid and strong addiction potential.

Recent measures have seen the deployment of three warships off the coast of Venezuela to combat drug trafficking. The US government has accused Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro of leading a powerful cocaine cartel called "Cártel de los Soles." In response, Venezuela has sent 15,000 soldiers to its border with Colombia to fight drug trafficking under US pressure.

The US has also taken steps to curb drug trafficking by implementing visa restrictions against drug traffickers, their family members, and business partners. However, there is debate among security experts about whether the Cartel de los Soles actually exists.

Venezuela serves as a significant transit country for the smuggling of cocaine from Colombia to the US and Europe. The Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua, which emerged from a railway workers' union, is also involved in drug trafficking. Splinter groups of Colombian rebels have also been active in drug trafficking within Venezuela.

The US government accuses Maduro of flooding the US with cocaine and using it as a weapon. The US government alleges that the Cartel de los Soles, a crime syndicate of military officers, controls the drug trade in Venezuela.

In addition to the warships, the US has deployed 10 advanced F-35 fighter jets to Puerto Rico to intensify anti-drug operations in the Caribbean and disrupt drug smuggling routes fueling the US drug crisis. The US government has also accused several countries, including Venezuela, Mexico, and Canada, of not doing enough to prevent drug cartels from flooding the US with drugs.

Other drugs like cocaine are also under scrutiny in the US. The US government's efforts to combat drug trafficking are ongoing, with the aim of reducing the supply of drugs and minimizing their harmful effects on American society.
