EU Commission Initiates Discussion on Prospective EU Harbor Infrastructure

The European Commission has unveiled two new policy frameworks aimed at bolstering Europe's ports and maritime sectors. The EU Ports Strategy and the EU Industrial Maritime Strategy are designed to support Europe's defence and trade, as well as its waterborne industries.

These high-level policy frameworks are part of the EU's efforts to strengthen its ports and maritime sectors, with the EU Ports Strategy focusing on maintaining ports' long-term competitiveness while addressing issues such as security, energy transition, and sustainability. The Industrial Maritime Strategy, on the other hand, aims to support the competitiveness, resilience, and green and digital transition of shipbuilding, maritime manufacturing, and shipping.

The development process for these strategies involves two high-level Strategic Dialogues hosted by Apostolos Tzitzikostas. These dialogues took place in Brussels and were attended by industry representatives from ports, shipbuilding, shipping, inland waterways, and related sectors.

Broad stakeholder input is essential in the development of both the EU Ports and Industrial Maritime Strategies. The EU is committed to listening to the sector's needs and ambitions to help shape a future-ready Europe.

The EU Ports Strategy is intended to help Europe's ports remain globally competitive and prepare for leading the clean and digital energy transition. Similarly, the Industrial Maritime Strategy is designed to support shipbuilding, maritime manufacturing, and shipping, with an emphasis on competitiveness, resilience, and the green and digital transition.

However, there is currently no available information regarding the industry representatives involved in the Strategic Talks on the Development of the EU Port Strategy and the EU Maritime Industry Strategy held today in Brussels by Apostolos Tzitzikostas.

The EU's commitment to these strategies reflects its dedication to fostering a sustainable and competitive maritime sector. By facilitating the clean and digital energy transition, these strategies aim to strengthen Europe's ports and maritime sectors and contribute to a greener and more digital Europe.

As the development of these strategies continues, more details are expected to emerge, providing insights into how Europe plans to shape its maritime future.
