The city of Dresden is set to welcome a new technological innovation centre, BioZ 2, by the end of 2025. The construction of the shell for this centre began in November 2023, and it will be located in close proximity to the University Hospital Carl Gustav Carus.

The new centre, which will offer around 4,100 m² of rentable space for life sciences companies, is being managed by Jülich Management GmbH. The total cost of BioZ 2 is approximately 18 million euros, with 6.7 million euros coming from GRW infrastructure grants. Additional funding is provided through third-party funds.

The TechnologyCenter Dresden GmbH, which manages 539 companies in the industry, has been instrumental in the settlement of diverse companies in the technology sector. This has created approximately 6,200 jobs, with the existing BioZ centre housing 190 tenants.

The new centre will provide much-needed space for startups and growing SMEs in the life sciences sector. It will be equipped with laboratories, workshops, clean rooms, and offices spread across four floors. The expected completion date for BioZ 2 is at the end of 2025, and a groundbreaking ceremony was recently held to mark the beginning of this exciting project.

The construction of BioZ 2 is a significant step forward for the city of Dresden, further cementing its position as a hub for technological innovation and life sciences research. The centre is expected to contribute to the continued growth and development of the industry in the region.
